On what turned out to be the best day's weather of the week, Malcolm Ward of Prudhoe Golf Club won the Past Captains' Trophy with 35 points
The day before had seen many courses in the region closed due to excessive rain and Matfen Hall was no exception. Monday turned out dry, though, and Matfen had the course in great condition for us.
With the run gone from the fairways and soft, receptive greens, (not to mention the old fogies that made up most of the field!) the scores were mostly a little low but Prudhoe's Malcolm Ward's 35 was a clear winner.
There was a fight for second place with Marylyn Ashby of Slaley Hall winning out on countback despite home club advantage for third place, Vice Captain Scott Gallagher.
Nearest the pin was taken by Phil Rainford of Hexham.
The League would like to thank Matfen Hall for looking after us so well, putiing on a great course in the conditions and giving us a lovely meal and excellent service.
Next year's Past Captains' Trophy will be on Monday 7th July at Newcastle United. Put it in your diary!!
