A great day out

The executives from the Hadrian, North Durham and North Northumberland Leagues played their annual three way match for the Dixon Cup Exec Trophy at South Shields today. The match is played in 4 Ball Better ball format with 8 players from each League and the best aggregate stableford scores deciding the winner.

The weather was kind to us and, while it was fairly breezy, we stayed dry and warm all day.
The scores were very tight with North Durham and the Hadrian League tied after all had completed 18 holes.
Ties are decided by the back 9 totals and this resulted in a win for the NDUGC.

We did win a few things

Our 'ringers', Tom O'Malley and Jeff Hird from Stocksfield did us proud with the 'best pair's' score of 43 - winning them a couple of bottles. (Thanks for stepping in at the last moment, lads).

Our own Neil Clarke won one of the 'nearest the pins' and Tom O'Malley the other!

Thanks...

As always, it's great fun to play golf with the committees from the other leagues, to meet old friends and to compare notes about how the leagues and their management are progressing.

South Shields Golf Club was in excellent condition with firm, dry fairways, some punitive rough and tricky but consistent greens. The club looked after us very well, lovely bacon butties to start the day and a nice meal and 'pudding' when we'd finished.

Our thanks go to South Shields for the use of their club and to Bill Mair and his team for organising it all so well..
