This year's Past Captains' Trophy saw the largest field we've been able to muster for a good few years. At one point we had forty six players entered (though, sadly, we lost three of these in the last day before the event).
All but one of the current Clubs were represented as well as previous League Clubs, Newcastle United and Wallsend - with players taking advantage of their right to play even though their Club was no longer a League Club.
Northumberland looked after us very well indeed, from the welcoming bar, and it's potential for a well filled bacon buttie, through to the excellent meal we enjoyed after playing. If only every Club would produce such beautifully presented and tasty food!
The course was in excellent condition, especially given the last few weeks without rain. While the fairways were somewhat 'sun-bleached' they ran true and the greens were small oases of green. Fast and true.
The tricky part was the wind. Fairly brisk from the start, it grew stronger as the day progressed.
Given the windy conditions there were quite a few 'respectable' scores returned but the outstanding score of the day was Stephen Butterfield's 41 points! 4 points clear of the field!
As ever, the Hadrian League are most grateful to our host Club, Northumberland, for their generous hosting of our event and the superb service we received throughout the day. Thank you, Northumberland!
